KI activates acyl chlorides

I don’t know why this wasn’t obvious because there was the Finkelstein reaction already – but Jonathan Williams and co-workers at the University of Bath have reported in Org Lett on the use of potassium iodide to activate acyl chlorides as electrophiles. In order to show evidence for the acyl iodide they subjected benzoyl chloride to KI in an NMR tube in deuterated acetonitrile and observed the shift in the 13C NMR.
