GOAT Inhibitor

Philip Cole and co-workers at Johns Hopkins University have published in Science on a ghrelin O-acyltransferase inhibitor, GO-CoA-Tat, a bisubstrate antagonist of GOAT, which is a peptide, so it is not a suitable drug – the body degrades peptides.

Capsaicin’s Anti-Obesity Effects

Jong-Won Yu and co-workers at Daegu University have published in the Journal of Proteome Research on the anti-obesity effects of capsaicin, the spicy ingredient in chili peppers.

Grecocycline B

Thomas Paululat and co-workers at the University of Siegen in Germany have recently reported on the isolation of grecocycline B from Streptomyces sp. Acta 1362.  The new polycyclic compound had an IC50 of 0.52 micromolar against tyrosine phosphatase B1.  Interestingly, protein tyrosine phosphatase PTP1B is a target for the treatment of obesity, type 2 diabetes and cancer.
