Tetrodotoxin Synthesis

Ken-ichi Sato and co-workers from Kanagawa University have recently reported the synthesis of tetrodotoxin in the Bulletin of the Chemical Society of Japan. There was a key Ferrier rearrangement from a glucose derived intermediate to yield a penta-substituted cyclohexanone.
