Multicomponent Approach to Tetrasubstituted FUrans

A Michael addition, followed by aromatization, and then another Michael addition – sounds like another cascade multicomponent reaction to me.  Junliang Zhang and co-worker from the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry have recently published on a multi-component reaction that involves palladium.  They used alkynyl enones and added alcoholid nucleophiles to ultimately form tetrasubstituted furans.
