Ben Shen and co-workers at the University of Wisconsin have recently published in Organic Letters on the inactivation of Streptomyces platensis MA7339’s ptnR1 gene, a GntR-like transcriptional regulator.  This inactivation led to a mutant strain that produced more platensin (100 times more).
