Three Component Coupling with Triflic Acid

Posted by naturalproductman on March 25, 2010

Guofu Zhong and co-workers at Nanyang Technical University in Singapore have recently reported on a triflic acid catalyzed three component coupling between an alpha-diazo-ester, nitrosobenzene and dimethyl maleate to yield isoxazolidines.  Surprisingly triflic acid gave a much higher yield than the usual rhodium dimers that Michael Doyle popularized in metallocarbenoid type reactions (98% vs. 65%).
