Fernando Lopez and co-workers at Universidad de Santiago de Compostela have reported in Chemical Communications on a gold/organocatalyst-cocatalyzed alpha alkylation of aldehydes. Interestingly Jose Gonzalez and co-workers at Universidad de Oviedo also reported in Chem Comm on a gold/organocatalyst reaction.

Inostamycin A synthesis

Sung Ho Kang and co-workers from KAIST have reported in ACIE on the synthesis of inostamycin A using lanthanum (LaCl3) to effect a transmetallation of an organolithium to organolanthanum compound, which adds onto a ketone.

Diacyl peroxide + Olefin = Alkyl-ester + CO2

Hongli Bao and co-workers from the Chinese Academy of Sciences have reported in Organic Letters on a copper catalyzed reaction that adds an ester group and an R group across an olefin using a diacyl peroxide. To make these daily peroxides (which are potentially explosive), they treated acyl chlorides with hydrogen peroxide.

Oxetane to tetrahydropyran
