Hey, is that a natural product?!

Is “frustrated Lewis pair” (FLP) in your lexicon?

Posted by naturalproductman on April 5, 2016

Over the years as I peruse the literature, frustrated Lewis pair (FLP) has come up numerous times. Elon Ison and co-workers from NCSU have reported in JACS on the generation of a frustrated Lewis pair between an oxorhenium diamidopyridine complex (Lewis base) and tris(pentafluorophenyl)borane (Lewis acid). This FLP can be used to split a molecule of hydrogen to reduce olefins. What’s funny about calling these “frustrated” is the anthropomorphism.
