Apoptolidins localize in mitochondria

Gary Sulikowski and co-workers at Vanderbilt University have reported in ACIE on the use of some fluorescent probe versions of apoptolidin natural products and determined that the natural product localizes in the mitochondria of cancer cells.

Christian Hertweck and co-workersfrom HKI in Germany have published in ACIEE on the isolation of a group of macrolides and divergolide D was the most cytotoxic with IC50 values ranging from 1-2 micromolar against lung cancer (LXFA 629L), pancreatic cancer (PANC-1), renal cancer (RXF 486L), and sarcoma (Saos-2) cancer cell lines.

Georgios Vassilikogiannakis and co-workers at the University of Crete have published in Chemical Communications on a singlet oxygen promoted cascade reaction to obtain the ABC ring system found in pectenotoxin.  **Hint:  The reaction starts with a double Diels-Alder.
