Eutypoids B-E

Johannes Imhoff and co-workers at Leibniz-Institute of Marine Sciences have published in the Journal of Natural Products on the isolation of eutypoids B-E from the Penicillium sp. strain KF620 i.  Eutypoid B had an IC50 of 0.78 micromolar against glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β), which is a target for treating type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.

Flavonoid and Alzheimer’s Tau Protein

Tian-Ming Yao and co-workers at Tongji University have published in the Bulletin of Chemical Society of Japan on the isolation of a flavonoid that inhibited aggregation of the tau protein into paired helical fragments (PHFs).

Infractopicrin and 10-Hydroxy-infractopicrin

Norbert Arnold and co-workers from Leibniz Institute of Plant Biochemistry have isolated some acetylcholinesterase inhibitors (9.7 micromolar) – potentially used for preventing the degradation of acetylcholine and therefore an Alzheimer treatment.
