Chamobtusin synthesis

Sakae Aoyagi and colleague at the Tokyo Pharmaceutical University have reported in Chem Comm on the synthesis of chamobtusin, a diterpenoid alkaloid.  A tungsten mediated oxidation protocol was used to access the pyrrole from a tetrahydropyrrole.

Spirocurcasone

Orazio Taglialatela-Scafati and co-workers at Universita di Napoli have published in Organic Letters on the isolation of some diterpenoids including a novel spirocycle, spirocurcasone, however, this new spirocyclic compound did not seem to have any biological activity.  A related structure, curcasone C, had an IC50 value of 0.08 micrograms/mL against the L5178Y (mouse lymphoma) cell line.

Monamphilectine A

Abimael Rodriguez and co-worker from the University of San Juan in Puerto Rico have published in Organic Letters on the isolation of monamphilectine A, which had an IC50 value of 0.6 micromolar against Plasmodium falciporum while 8,15-diisocyano-11(20)-amphilectene had an IC50 value of 0.04 micromolar.

Crotobarin and Crotogoudin

Philippe Rasoanavio and co-workers from the Institut Malgache des Recherches Appliquees have published in the Journal of Natural Products on the isolation of a diterpenoid that had biological activity with IC50 values of 2.5, 2.1, 0.79 and 0.56 micromolar against KB, HT29, A549 and HL60 cell lines, respectively.
