Anti-HSV flavonoids

Xin-Sheng Yao and co-workers from Jinan University have reported on the isolation of some flavonoids  called houttuynoids A-E with anti-Herpes Simplex virus activity (IC50 ~ 45 micromolar).

Somsak Ruchirawat and co-workers from Chulabhorn Research Institute in Thailand have reported in the European JOC on the isolation of longeracemosones A–F, which were found to have inhibitory activity against aromatase.

Somsak Ruchirawat and co-workers at Chulabhorn Graduate Institute and the Center for Environmental Health in Thailand have reported in the European Journal of Organic Chemistry on the isolation of longeracemosones, which had anti-aromatase activity.

Austocystin D and MDR1

Henry Pelish and co-workers at Makoto Life Sciences have reported in the Journal Natural Products on the compound, austocystin D, which gets activated by a cytochrome P450 enzyme (CYP3A4) and then does the damage to the cells.

Flavonoid and Alzheimer’s Tau Protein

Tian-Ming Yao and co-workers at Tongji University have published in the Bulletin of Chemical Society of Japan on the isolation of a flavonoid that inhibited aggregation of the tau protein into paired helical fragments (PHFs).

Cytotoxic Flavonoids

Shigetoshi Kadota and co-workers at the University of Toyama have recently reported in the Journal of Natural Products on the isolation of the flavonoid, (7′′R)-8-[1-(4′-hydroxy-3′-methoxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1-yl]galangin, from the plant, Mexican propolis.  This aromatic compound was found to have an PC50 value of against PANC-1 human pancreatic cells.
