Oroidin’s Biological Activity

Posted by naturalproductman on January 21, 2011

We always hear about the notorious oroidin dimers (ie: palau’amine, massadine, etc.) but not too much about the oroidin monomer itself.  Antonio Ferreira-Pereira and co-workers at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro in Brazil have published in the Journal of Natural Products on the biological activity of this monomer – it inhibits Pdr5p, an enzyme which is a major multi-drug exporter found in yeast.
