Synthesis of Caribenol A

Zhen Yang and co-workers at Peking University have published in JACS on the total synthesis of caribenol via an intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction using an activated alkyne as the dienophile. The intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction required the use of a catalytic amount of 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-methylphenol (BHT) – an antioxidant.
